Parks, Trails & Open Spaces

Located at the base of Pikes Peak, the City of Colorado Springs has over 9,000 acres of parkland and 500 acres of trails that include renown attractions like Garden of the Gods and the Manitou Incline trail.

City parks encompass a diverse array of natural areas, including forested foothills, sheer-walled canyons, mountain streams, unique rock formations, expansive grasslands and scenic mesas.

Colorado Springs also provides a variety of urban commuter trails, neighborhood parks, athletic facilities and open spaces that contribute to the department's mission to enhance the quality of life for its residents.

The list continues to grow as the department adds and maintains recreational areas, with many new areas in development.

Golf Courses

The City of Colorado Springs owns and operates two beautiful golf courses maintained for players of all abilities. Both courses are open year-round and offer lessons and leagues. Please take a look at some of the features listed below and call or e-mail us with questions or comments.

Patty Jewett Golf Course - Patty Jewett Golf Course, the third oldest public course west of the Mississippi, has been city-owned since 1919. The entrance sets the elegant mood, complete with a wonderful wrought-iron gate and a drive down a narrow road lined with a canopy of 100-year-old trees.

Valley Hi Golf Course - Valley Hi Golf Course offers a wonderful scenic view of Pikes Peak and Cheyenne Mountain. It was constructed in 1956 and purchased by the City in 1975. The 18-hole, par 71 course offers some of the most quality manicured greens in the area.

Pioneer Museum - Located downtown in the restored 1903 El Paso County Courthouse, preserving the history culture of the Pikes Peak Region.

The Money Museum - America's largest museum dedicated to coins, paper money, tokens, and medals. The museum explores art, history and science to promote the diverse nature of money. 

May Natural History Museum - The world's premier bug museum! You name the insect and they've got it. The museum is home to one of the largest collections of tropical bugs in the world!
